Two Oakland Raiders fans are hospitalized after being shot while attending a preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers.
One of the fans was wearing a derogatory t-shirt toward the 49ers. Both were shot outside the stadium in separate but related incidents.
The one man who is listed in critical condition was able to make his way back to the stadium and get the attention of an usher.
The other man is listed in good condition. Police do have a suspect in custody at this time, which is definitely great news. (Read More…)

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith will likely start for the team in 2011, but not everyone agrees he is the man for the job.
Wideout Michael Crabtree told reporters that he will support whoever the starting quarterback happens to be, but he doesn’t think there is one yet.
Maybe Crabtree was still smarting from comments Smith made last week when he wondered where the wideout was when he didn’t show up for an informal workout.
Crabtree insists he has been busy working out and staying shape during the offseason, often doing the same things that occur at the informat workouts but just in a different setting. (Read More…)

The San Francisco 49ers have many offseason needs, but one of the biggest holes exists at place kicker.
The 49ers brought Jeff Reed, who was cut midseason by the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he went 9-10 on field goals with San Francisco.
However, his one miss proved critical in a loss to the St. Louis Rams, potentially costing them the division.
The team could bring back Reed, a free agent, next season. They also could bring back Joe Nedney. (Read More…)

It’s becoming more and more clear that Alex Smith and Troy Smith are on their way out in San Francisco.
New 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh is interested in both Kevin Kolb and Donovan McNabb to run his West Coast offense.
He is also looking to some undervalued quarterbacks in the draft who he believes could run his system.
Some of the names that have popped up on the radar include Cam Newton, Greg McElroy and Andy Dalton. (Read More…)

The San Francisco 49ers have fired head coach Mike Singletary with just one game left to play in the NFL season.
The team waited until the 49ers were officially eliminated from playoff contention, which is what happened in their loss to St. Louis.
Singletary had a record below .500 in his three years with the 49ers, and there were high expectations entering this season.
The head coach had a number of confrontations with players, including a heated exchange with quarterback Troy Smith during Sunday’s game. (Read More…)

The San Francisco 49ers couldn’t stay alive in the NFC West playoff race following a 25-17 loss to the St. Louis Rams.
Quarterback Troy Smith was back as the starter against the Rams, but he quickly took a seat on the sidelines after throwing an interception.
Alex Smith replaced Troy, who was then seen on the sidelines getting into a heated confrontation with head coach Mike Singletary.
After the loss eliminated the 49ers from playoff contention, the team announced the firing of Singletary. (Read More…)

The visiting San Francisco 49ers were no match for the San Diego Chargers in a 34-7 loss.
It was a lost opportunity for the 49ers, who could have jumped into a first place tie in the NFC West with a win.
The 49ers remain alive in the division race, but the loss to San Diego just makes things a little tougher.
Quarterback Alex Smith did not play well, and you have to wonder if the team will consider going back to Troy Smith. (Read More…)

The San Francisco 49ers hung tough early but didn’t have enough offense to keep up with the Green Bay Packers in a 34-16 loss.
San Francisco’s secondary had no answer for the Green Bay passing game. Greg Jennings and Donald Driver torched them for long touchdowns.
Tackling on both of those touchdowns, especially Driver’s, was terrible and a big reason for the scores.
Quarterback Troy Smith only completed 10 passes on the day, throwing for 195 yards and a touchdown. (Read More…)

San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore will miss the rest of the season after breaking his hip.
Gore was injured early in the team’s rout of the Arizona Cardinals. He tried to return to the game, but then left for good.
Brian Westbrook saw a lot of the action with Gore out of the lineup and ran well, finishing with 136 yards and a touchdown.
The veteran is likely to get the bulk of the carries the rest of the season with Anthony Dixon also seeing time. (Read More…)

The San Francisco 49ers took a step backward with a 21-0 shutout loss at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
It seemed like a good matchup for the 49ers since they were facing the 31st ranked run defense in the league.
Instead, running back Frank Gore managed just 23 rushing yards on 12 carries. Troy Smith was the leading rusher with 45 yards on the ground.
The young quarterback didn’t play nearly as well as last week, throwing for just 148 yards and an interception. (Read More…)
