49ers shut out by Bucs, 21-0

The San Francisco 49ers took a step backward with a 21-0 shutout loss at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

It seemed like a good matchup for the 49ers since they were facing the 31st ranked run defense in the league.

Instead, running back Frank Gore managed just 23 rushing yards on 12 carries. Troy Smith was the leading rusher with 45 yards on the ground.

The young quarterback didn’t play nearly as well as last week, throwing for just 148 yards and an interception. (Read More…)

49ers slip past Rams, 23-20

The San Francisco 49ers won their second straight game with a 23-20 overtime victory over the St. Louis Rams.

Quarterback Troy Smith won his second game in as many starts, throwing for 356 yards and a touchdown.

For the second straight week, Smith hooked up with wide receiver Michael Crabtree for a key touchdown.

Running back Frank Gore finished with over 150 yards of total offense and also found the end zone. (Read More…)

49ers hold off Broncos, 24-16

The San Francisco 49ers got the Troy Smith era off to a good start with a 24-16 victory over the Denver Broncos in London’s Wembley Stadium.

Smith threw for almost 200 yards and a touchdown, doing a great job of managing the game for Mike Singletary.

Alex Smith is out for at least another week, possibly longer, which gives Troy a chance to steal away the starting job.

The 49ers really eased him into things, giving the Broncos a very heavy dose of running back Frank Gore. (Read More…)

49ers fall to Panthers, 23-20

The San Francisco 49ers fell apart in the second half in a disappointing 23-20 loss to the Carolina Panthers.

The 49ers looked like they were set to pick up their second straight win, but they squandered a seven-point fourth quarter lead.

Quarterback Alex Smith was knocked out of the game with a shoulder injury, forcing backup David Carr into action.

Running back Frank Gore finished with just over 100 yards on the ground while tight end Vernon Davis found the end zone. (Read More…)
